A stop after the machine has been on but the auger has not been engaged can be normal behavior rather than a defect. In Toro’s troubleshooting table, the motor shutoff timeout is the first cause under “does not run or does not run continuously,” and the correction is simply to restart; the machine beeps to indicate that timeout. Preserve that timeline. A machine that times out while idle is a different case from one that dies the instant the auger meets a snowbank.

The key transition is another current-generation branch that generic battery articles usually miss. Toro says the machine may fail when the key is turned from OFF to ON too quickly. The correction is to turn the key more slowly and let it stop briefly in the middle ACCESSORY position. If the machine still will not run, follow Toro’s external battery branches in order: low charge, battery not fully seated, battery outside the appropriate temperature range, high-amperage protection and moisture on the battery leads. Toro gives 5°C to 40°C (41°F to 104°F) as the charge/storage range and instructs the owner to move a battery outside the appropriate range to a dry place in that range. Do not diagnose lithium-ion capacity from a pack that just came from extreme cold or heat.

A machine that stops only under very heavy snow can be reaching the high-amperage limit rather than exposing a bad controller. Toro’s corrective action for that branch is to cycle the key to OFF.
